The Lowest Cost Power on Earth

If you see a windmill anywhere on the Great Plains, chances are very good that it was made by the Aeromotor Windmill Company.  The company has been making windmills since 1888 and proudly proclaims them to be the lowest cost power on earth.  They are also pretty reliable. Simple in design and rugged, our mills have given us dependable and low cost service for decades.  This is why we still depend on them for supplying water to livestock during the heat of summer grazing season.

Water is a top concern for cattlemen.  This is because the number of gallons of water required for even a small herd of cow-calf pairs gets very large, very fast.  For example, a herd of just 100 cow-calf pairs, where a pair is a 1,000 pound cow with a nursing calf at her side, consumes an average of 1,200 gallons daily! This means that over the course of a six month summer grazing season, something around a mind-blowing 216,000 gallons of water must be delivered to the herd of lactating cows when and where they need it.

In order to meet this demand as economically as possible, we rely on wind power with grid-supplied electric power as backup. Three windmills and one electric well do the job of pumping water into stock tanks as the herd is moved through summer pastures.  This system has worked very well. Over the past 20 years, Aeromotor’s claim has proven to be accurate for us.  When Aeromotor says that their windmills are the lowest cost cost power on earth, we believe them.  We also believe that it’s the most reliable!
