Ranch Policies
- Walk-in hunting only. Use of ATV and UTV vehicles anywhere on the ranch is prohibited.
- We hunt fair chase. Respect for the game and our companions is the cornerstone of our decision to allow public hunting on our property. Hunters are expected to demonstrate the highest hunt ethics and respect for safety and property at all times.
- Copy of Nebraska hunting permits and stamps must be submitted with application. Guest hunters are responsible for obtaining Nebraska hunting licenses and stamps. We expect that all hunters to be familiar with Nebraska’s Big Game and Turkey Guides.
- No Smoking outside of the designated ranch headquarters area. Recognizing that the conditions for wildfires can change quickly in our region, smoking is prohibited in all ranch lands outside of the designated area within the headquarter unit.
- Daily hunt plans are required. Guest hunters must tell us where they plan to hunt and their route from our parking area to the hunt site. The must also tell us when and where they will be entering and leaving the property.
- Harvest report. our goal is to monitor the activity of deer on our property to ensure achievement of cattle grazing management objectives. All hunters are required to present their harvested deer for aging and measurement with respect to antlers and dressed weight. We will also visually inspect the carcass for evidence of injury and parasites. Please note that our harvest assessment is not a substitute for Nebraska’s required game-check.
- In case of emergency. Guest hunters are reminded to call 911 in case of emergency.
- Pursuit of wounded game. Pursuit of wounded game requires caution at all times, but extra caution is required as light levels and temperatures are falling. If you believe that wounded game has moved to an adjacent private property, please give us a call at (540) 533-8847. We will contact the property owner to request permission for animal recovery.
- Assistance with transporting harvested game back to your truck. Contact ranch HQ for assistance moving your game from the field to the Deep Creek parking area.
- Trespassing and poaching wild game are serious offenses. We report all trespassers and poachers to law enforcement.
- No pets during hunting Sseason. Although we love dogs, we also do not want to create conditions (e.g. barking, off-the leash pursuit of cows, rabbits or deer) that will drive away deer.
- Ranch safety orientation. All guest hunters and guests must complete a brief ranch safety orientation. Our safety briefing describes current ranch farming and cattle production activities and any other conditions that may present hazards to your hunting party.
- Firearm safety. We give all guest lodgers and hunters a copy of the NRA rules for firearm safety. Safe firearm handling is required at all times.
- No sighting-in on the ranch. To site-in your rifle, we request that you visit Crawford’s shooting range operated by the Northwest Nebraska Shooter’s Association. The ranch is located at 5 Dodd Road, Crawford, NE 69339.
- Hunter preparation and fitness. We believe that hunter preparation and fitness are essential keys to a safe and enjoyable hunt. Hence, we expext hunters to arrive familiar with ranch terrain and trails and able to withstand the exertion required for hikes at elevations between 4,500 and 4,700 ft.
